There are few topics in the educational field that intensify debates and polarize as many discussions as distance education (EaD). And the awakening of greater sociological interest in this modality, present on all continents, did not occur suddenly.
To address the importance of student financing for the access and retention of students in Brazilian higher education, it is necessary, to begin with, to consider some statistical data. According to data from the National Institute of Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (INEP), in 2022, 78% of student enrollments in Brazilian higher education were in the private sector, that is, of the almost 9.5 million students, 7.4 million studied in private institutions.
On October 24, 2023, the National Congress approved the reformulation of the quota system in federal education. The result of a Bill filed by deputy Maria do Rosário (PT/RS) and other deputies from different parties, the project brought important issues to the design of the policy, such as the expansion of postgraduate studies and the reduction in the value of the criterion of income.
